The Elementary Music area of the Kansas City Metro District #3 of the Missouri Music Educators Association offers an avenue to provide support for students in the elementary and early middle school through grade six. For several years, Metro District #3 has hosted an honor choir for schools within the Kansas City area to increase student achievement by providing an opportunity for students to advance their experience in a choral setting.
Music teachers select students to participate in a day-long clinic by obtaining music selected by the clinician, teaching the students the music (memorized) in advance of the clinic, A fee is charged for each participating student to cover the cost of custom shirts, snacks, clinician and accompanist fees, printing costs for programs and certificates, and a CD recording of the concert. The clinics take place in late April or early May.
Music teachers meet on the same Saturday morning in January that the high school All-District ensembles perform. Teachers collaborate with colleagues to further music education goals. All music teacher are welcome and encouraged to attend this annual meeting.
